Community Engagement

Talking Drum Studio creates space for public debate around burning issues for the community. We address topics such as the role of youth in the political landscape, service delivery in health and education, women's participation, land negotiations, domestic violence, and inheritance issues through dialogue. These initiatives create a safe space to vent frustrations via nonviolent means while creating opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

For instance, we hold Town Hall Meetings to provide a platform for communities to interact directly with service providers and elected officials. The needs and concerns expressed by community members can then lead to concrete action plans. Taking it one step further, Taking Drum Studio uses its long-established network of community radio partners to broadcast these meetings' outcomes.

In addition to these meetings, we conduct Policy Dialogues with key political actors at the regional, district, and chiefdom levels. Together, they reflect on the main challenges of governance and propose avenues for reform. As a result, elected officials are now showing willingness and commitment to participate in discussions that respond to citizens' demands.
